Stop overthinking your photos!

If I had a pound for every time a client said, "I don't have any good photographs for my website or social media," I’d be a very rich lady. The biggest misconception when it comes to website or blog images is thinking you need a professional photoshoot to get professional-looking photos.

Spoiler alert: You don’t! Whether you're short on time, or budget, or just can't be bothered to go for a photoshoot, this guide is for you.

The 10-minute photoshoot: Get it done!

Let’s face it—life as a practitioner running a practice is busy. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have time to get some great photos taken.

Today, I'm sharing my secret to a super-fast, no-fuss, 10-minute photoshoot. It’s perfect for those of you who just want to get it done and move on with your day.

This morning, I needed some fresh photos for our social media and blog, so I thought, why not share my process with you? The goal here is simple: to get some decent photos that are "good enough" for social media, blog posts, or even the odd YouTube video thumbnail.

Tools of the trade: What you really need

Yes, I have fancy cameras—two, in fact—but today, I’m keeping it real and simple. All I am using are:

  • A webcam: The one sitting on top of my computer, or you can use your phone camera, with your phone on a tripod.
  • Lighting: Two basic lights - but you can just use the light from a window
  • Backdrop: A curtain stapled to the wall behind my desk.

No need to clean up your desk or stress about the perfect setup. Just dive in and get these pictures taken!

How to use your webcam for great photos

On a Mac, there’s a handy app called Photo Booth (if you’re a Windows user you can use their Photo Booth Pro app). Here’s how you can use it for your photo shoot:

  1. Setup: Open the Photo Booth app. Position the window just below your
webcam so you can see yourself as you take the photos.
  2. Lighting: Ensure you’ve got decent lighting with no big shadows behind you.
  3. Strike a pose: Simply click the button, pose, and wait for the three-second countdown.
  4. Keep going: Repeat this as many times as you need!

Keep it fun: add some effects

Photo Booth comes with a few fun features to spice up your photos:

  • Black and white: For a classic look.
Avoid going too wild with the effects (unless you want to look like a chipmunk!).

  • Multi-shot: Capture four action shots in quick succession.

Mix it up: Quick outfit changes

If you want more variety, consider changing your clothes, jewellery, props, or other accessories between shots. This way, in just 10 minutes, you can create a range of styles and images to keep your content fresh 😎.

Final thoughts: Done is better than perfect!

Will every photo be perfect?

No.

Will every photo be good enough?

No.

BUT will some be good enough?

YES! Absolutely!

Stop overthinking it and just #makeithappen

This quick and easy 10-minute photoshoot can provide you with a stash of usable photos for months, keeping your digital marketing game strong.

So go on, give it a try.
Keep it simple.
Have fun, and remember: done is better than perfect!
